Two Republicans—Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco—are leading the crowded California governor primary, narrowly edging out Democrats due to widespread voter apathy. With only about 17–16% support each and over a quarter of voters undecided, experts warn the split Democratic field could produce a historic GOP runoff under California’s top-two system. 

A push is underway to raise Alameda County’s minimum wage to $30 an hour, led by labor advocates who argue current wages don’t come close to covering the Bay Area’s soaring cost of living. Supporters say the increase is necessary for workers to survive, while business groups warn it could drive up prices, cut jobs, and force small businesses to close, setting up a fierce economic debate.

The U.S. Postal Service warns it will run out of cash within 12 months unless Congress raises its $15 billion borrowing cap and allows it to increase postage rates. Postmaster General David Steiner told lawmakers that without urgent action, USPS may struggle to pay employees and vendors by February 2027. 

Sources with direct knowledge tells TMZ some medical emergency occurred in the last 24 hours on the island of Kauai that landed Chuck in the hospital. We do not know the nature of the emergency; however, we are told Chuck is in good spirits.

A sharp decline in well-being among young people is linked to heavy social media use, especially impacting teenage girls across English-speaking and Western European countries, the 2026 World Happiness Report finds. Despite this, Finland remains the happiest country globally for the ninth consecutive year, with other Nordic nations dominating the top spots.

A jury in Adams County, Ohio, ruled unanimously in favor of rapper Afroman (Joseph Foreman) by dismissing all 13 defamation and privacy claims filed by seven sheriff’s deputies. The deputies had argued that Afroman’s viral music videos—such as “Lemon Pound Cake,” featuring footage from a 2022 raid—damaged their reputations and caused threats, but the court found his videos were protected speech. 

Val Kilmer will be resurrected via AI for a posthumous role in the feature film As Deep as the Grave. Using generative AI with approval from Kilmer’s estate and family, the late actor’s likeness and voice will portray Father Fintan—his only role—despite never having filmed any scenes due to terminal illness.

SpaceX’s plan for up to 1 million AI-equipped satellites in low Earth orbit could wreak havoc on astronomy, experts warn, creating endless bright streaks in telescopes and shutting down observations more than 50% of the time.  This massive constellation would also burn up outdated satellites too frequently—every three minutes—releasing pollutants and increasing space debris, all fast-tracked without environmental review.
